# PFAS-Free, Pesticide-Free Performance Fabric for Apparel Brands > PFAS-free performance fabric is a finish-and-fiber spec, not a hangtag. Those are two different supply-chain decisions. Brands collapse them because both sound like "clean." A wear trial and a chemistry screen do not. A PFAS-free performance fabric removes one persistent chemical family from that layer. A pesticide-free fiber removes another exposure path that cotton-heavy "natural" lines still carry. Together they match the brand primitives: wellness, luxury hand, purity of inputs. ### PFAS Finishes vs a PFAS-Free Performance Fabric PFAS earned its place in outdoor and "performance" marketing because it sheds water and oil. Athletic jersey rarely needs that physics. It needs stretch, recovery, and moisture leaving the skin. Spec a PFAS-free performance fabric by banning C8/C6 DWR packages on the mill sheet, then confirming the yarn still wicks. If a water-repellent is truly required for a shell, that is a different garment — and a different chemical fight — than wellness tights. ### Pesticide-Free Performance Fabric vs Conventional Cotton Cotton reads natural and still arrives with a pesticide story. Miss the third and you have a clean fiber that bags.
