Most "eco" fibers optimize one axis. Recycled polyester cuts virgin feedstock and still sheds plastic. Conventional cotton reads natural and often arrives with a heavy pesticide story. Viscose bamboo markets the plant and delivers a chemical process. A wellness fiber for textiles has to clear three gates at once: regenerative inputs, clean chemistry against skin, and performance that can replace the synthetics people actually train in.
Imperium was built for that triple. The hemp side is American regenerative acreage grown without pesticides and with far less water than cotton. Industrial hemp in Imperium's supply chain is grown as a regenerative rotation crop: deep roots, biomass that returns organic matter, and a plant that can sit where other crops struggle. No pesticides on the wellness fiber path
Conventional cotton is a pesticide-intensive crop. The EPA's pesticide program exists because those chemistries are real agricultural tools with real residue and runoff stories. Imperium's hemp input is the other bet: low-input growth without the pesticide load you do not want as a ghost on next-to-skin cloth. Hemp fiber can need dramatically less irrigation than cotton (Imperium's proof language is up to 95% less water versus conventional cotton). Why a Wellness Fiber Does Not Hit Skin the Way Polyester Does

No plastic microfiber shed against skin or into water
Polyester sheds plastic microfibers in the wash and during wear. NOAA treats synthetic microfibers as a primary debris pathway; the EPA frames the same problem from the water side. That is source control, not a laundry filter afterthought, and it is one of the cleanest answers a wellness fiber for textiles can give.
No static, PFAS coat, or hormone-chemistry stack
Polyester is hydrophobic and static-prone. Static from synthetics is the subject of our oxidative stress brief. Many "performance" finishes still lean on PFAS, and textile chemistries overlap with endocrine-disrupting concerns the NIEHS tracks. Hemp-lyocell wicks through the fiber, dissipates charge through moisture regain, and does not need a forever-chemical coat to manage sweat. That is the skin half of a wellness fiber.
Spec it where polyester hurts most
Put a wellness fiber first in the pieces with the most warm, damp contact: leggings, sports bras, base layers, underwear, then swim.
