Can US-Grown Hemp Be Spun with Supima Cotton?

Yes. US-grown hemp can be spun with Supima cotton when the hemp is cut to a staple the cotton system can draft. Supima is the trademark for American-grown extra-long-staple Pima cotton. Imperium's home program is built on that pairing: US hemp in the blend, US Supima as the cotton, spun for sheeting, towels, and drapery rather than for a plastic "linen look."

Why US-Grown Hemp Can Share a Cotton Frame

US-grown hemp starts as a bast fiber, long and woody, which is the wrong shape for a cotton ring frame. Cotton-system spinning wants a staple in the same length band as cotton. Imperium's apparel grade under the HFGA US Hemp Textile Standard is TX-A: fineness 6.1–12.0 dtex, length 25–45 mm, tenacity at least 35 cN/tex, shive at or below 3 percent. That length is the cotton-system window. The standards page is explicit that TX-A is for cotton-system blends and cottonized fiber, and that TX-B long-line wet spinning is a different product Imperium does not sell as this yarn.

Supima describes its cotton as American-grown extra-long-staple fiber, a small share of world cotton, ginned to keep that length. Extra-long staple overlaps the upper end of the TX-A band, which is why a mill can draft US-grown hemp and Supima cotton on one cotton system instead of pretending a coarse bast sliver is cotton. USDA hemp rules still govern the US crop. Cottonizing does not turn hemp into cotton. It makes the staple spinnable beside it.

The blend is a materials choice, not a license to print a 100 percent Supima hangtag.

US-Grown Hemp Supplies Strength and a Linen Hand

Hemp's job in the yarn is tenacity and the dry, breathable hand people buy linen for. Flax costs more to process. US-grown hemp in a cotton-system blend is how home goods keep that hand at a bedding-program price. The cotton side keeps the surface smoother than hemp alone. That is the same split the product page states: US Supima's extra-long staple for a smooth face, hemp for the linen character.

Supima Cotton Is the Extra-Long Staple, Not the Whole Cloth

Supima cotton is American Pima. Supima licenses the trademark for products made with that cotton. A hemp blend is not a 100 percent Supima fabric. Fiber content on the spec should name both: US-grown hemp percent and Supima cotton percent. Using the SUPIMA mark on a finished good is a licensing question with Supima, not a right that follows from buying the fiber. Say "US hemp / US Supima" the way the construction is named. Do not imply the hangtag is automatic.

US-Grown Hemp Does Not Add a Plastic Filament

Both fibers are cellulose. The yarn does not start as polyester, so it does not shed polyester microplastic the way a poly-cotton sheet can. That is source control, not a medical claim about sleep. Keep Finishes Off the US-Grown Hemp Story

TX-A restricted substances on the HFGA standard keep PFAS, glyphosate, chlorine bleach, and high formaldehyde out of the fiber grade. A converter can still add a wrinkle resin later. If the claim is clean inputs, the finish list has to stay as disciplined as the fiber. EPA PFAS guidance is the reason that column exists.
